stairways

Escalante - The Grande Staircase National Monument ....

The Grand staircase

is located midway on the Colorado Plateau between Capitol Reef to the northeast,  and Bryce to the southwest . It encompasses 4 different government agencies including National Forest , BLM ,  Utah state parks and the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area . Its BIG,  spanning hundreds of square miles ( think south FL ), and offering up about every type of geology the Plateau has .  It was designated a NM in 1996.  Clinton maybe ? I remember him catching sh*t for this . Its a magnificent place.

My landing pad was in Escalante Petrified Forest . Sweet little campground and real music fans too ! I have never been to a petrified forest before and was really looking forward to it ! It didn't disappoint . Its amazing to see such fantastic colors , and texture in the tree fossils just laying there and knowing they have been there for over 100 million years !
